On Switchblade´s fourth album, the Swedish three-piece evokes a monolithic sludgy
aura with a sound which is shimmering with harsh resonance. What draws these two
numbered, yet nameless tracks together is a shared sense of deconstructed momentum
and an oppressive, crushing heaviness which is nonetheless executed with a certain
degree of melodic decorum and manages to somehow be graceful in it’s sloth.
Adding to the bleakness and beauty of this album is the guestvocals by "E"
of WATAIN and Mattias Friberg of LOGH.
Switchblade - s/t "Tour" [2004] 7"
Trust No One Recordings [TRUSTNO26] / Icarus [IC05]
TRACKLIST:
01. 07:05 [Feat. Mattias Friberg of LOGH]
02. 05:52
Recorded at Mission Hall Studio July 2004 by Mathias Oldén.
In only a few years SWITCHBLADE went from wearing their influences on their sleeves
to making major waves in a still young sub genre. Shaped equally by their love of
the morose sounds of JOY DIVISION, THE MELVINS, NEUROSIS, MOGWAI, etc.
Their latest effort is a spectacular 2 song 7”EP featuring Mattias Friberg from the
Swedish Indie Rock band, LOGH. His soulful voice, along with additional guitar
contribution, add to the seemingly endless depth which SWITCHBLADE emplore with
this effort. Altogether creating brooding and sonic music as blinding as the sun in it’s aural power.

A 6 song, 47 minute journey that ranges from subtle ambient soundscapes to dark,
instrumental passages to full on stoner flirting, yet epic heaviness.
All with just sparse use of vocals.

Titles are meaningless. You can only push a musical concept to a cerntain limit.
Go beyond that and you run the risk of being led into a haze of creative decadence.
To avoid that, Switchblade have on their latest selftitled epic, taken a detour away
from their earlier sound that combined both speed and fury with slow, haunting melodies,
ending up with a slower, heavier, more instrumental and monotonous sound than ever before.
